SUMMARY:Webinar #5: An Introduction to Emotion Regulation
DESCRIPTION:Presented by: Sarah Dansie\, Workforce Development\, MHC \nTarget audience: Clinical and support workers in the alcohol and other drug (AOD) and mental health specialist sectors. \nPlease note: This webinar is a brief\, stand-alone version of the one-day workshop ST343 Emotion regulation delivered on the AODtraining@MHC Calendar. \nEmotion regulation is the ability to manage and respond to emotional experiences in a socially tolerable way. It includes being able to reduce the intensity or duration of emotional states or changing the expression of the emotion to achieve a more positive outcome. Emotion regulation generally increases across the lifespan\, however\, it is a skill that requires development. \nAOD use can be one of the strategies people adopt to regulate their emotions\, which can be helpful in the short-term\, but often not effective in the long-term. It makes sense then that many people who access AOD treatment services can have difficulty managing strong or overwhelming emotions and may have limited strategies outside of AOD use. \nThis training aims to assist the worker to: \n\nDevelop an understanding of emotion and emotion regulation\,\nExplore the skills needed to support people to better identify\, understand and manage their strong emotions\,\nIdentify strategies that will help people respond to overwhelming emotions in constructive ways.

SUMMARY:Short Mental Health Interventions: Surviving the Complaints Process
DESCRIPTION:As health practitioners we are all aware that there is a possibility\, maybe even a probability\, that at some time in our careers a complaint will be made about us to our registration body. \nIn this webinar Dr Jan Orman will talk to Dr Kathryn Hutt\, Director of the Doctors Health Advisory Service in NSW\, a GP with experience working for both AHPRA and a large professional indemnity provider as well as with doctors in distress. \nThey will discuss the realities of the health practitioner complaints process with special emphasis on the ways in which we can maintain our personal wellbeing in what is always a challenging and potentially very distressing process. \nMental health is the number one reason people see their GPs*\, yet GPs are time poor and wait times to see psychologists are long. The need for mental health care is growing faster than specialised support and services are\, leaving a gap in patient care. \nThis webinar series aims to provide GPs and other health professionals with skills to ‘fill the gap’ in providing mental health care to their patients using a range of brief interventions. Each webinar will be a discussion about the specific intervention and tips on how to use it effectively with your patients. \nFacilitator: \n\nDr Jan Orman\n\nGuest \n\nDr Kathryn Hutt\n\nBook this course online: https://black-dog-institute.my.salesforce-sites.com/forms/bdi_EducationMasterCourseIndividual?mstrCrsId=a1KUu0000082K7hMAE`

SUMMARY:Could it be Syphilis? Primary Care\, Emergency and Homeless Health
DESCRIPTION:There is a rising prevalence of syphilis in the general population. ASHM has developed the Could it be Syphilis?? resource to alert healthcare providers (particularly those in primary care\, emergency medicine and homeless health services) to the syphilis epidemic and to reinforce when they should be testing for syphilis. \nThis 60-minute session will provide a forum to discuss opportunistic testing in the general population based on clinical indicators and support healthcare providers from primary care\, emergency medicine and homeless health services in treatment provision and contact tracing. The session will maintain a specific focus on congenital syphilis by highlighting screening recommendations in pregnant and post-partum people and the risk of delayed or incorrect diagnosis of syphilis when people present with non-genital symptoms. \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n
