SUMMARY:Elder abuse recognition and response in older adult clients online workshop
DESCRIPTION:Elder abuse is a serious public health issue\, estimated to affect 1 in 20 older adults in Western Australia. It can take many forms\, including financial\, social\, physical\, sexual\, psychological\, and emotional abuse\, and can occur in a range of different settings. Elder abuse can have ongoing health impacts on an individual\, such as physical injury\, poor mental health\, and increased risk of placement in residential aged care. \nAs with many forms of abuse\, it can be difficult for an individual experiencing elder abuse to speak out. It is vital that health and community professionals working with older adults in WA carry the skills to recognise and respond to elder abuse to ensure the safety of their clients. \nJoin Injury Matters\, with guest facilitator Shawnee Van Poeteren from Advocare for the ‘Elder abuse recognition and response in older adult clients’ online workshop\, where we will explore: \n\nElder abuse and its impact on older adults\nHow to recognise and respond to elder abuse\nOptions for clients experiencing elder abuse\nThe Elder Abuse Protocol and 5-step approach for action against elder abuse\nElder abuse policy and procedure for organisations\nAdvocare and how they can assist you\n\nWho should attend? \nThis training is for anyone working with older adults\, including home care service providers\, carers and support workers\, community workers\, and health and allied health professionals. \n  \nREGISTER HERE

DESCRIPTION:Older adults are at a higher risk of foot related health problems that increase their risk of falling. Foot health can affect an older adults’ posture\, stability\, balance\, and walking pattern\, influencing the risk of falls. A diagnosis of diabetes is a big risk factor to foot health\, with recent studies also linking peripheral neuropathy and falls. DESCRIPTION:This case discussion evening will be facilitated by Simon Hazeldine an experienced gastroenterologist with extensive expertise in hepatitis B\, and will take place via webinar. \nIn this case discussion participants will discuss a range of Hepatitis B cases which will include different approaches to diagnosing\, treating and managing people living with hepatitis B. \nThis interactive training provides HBV prescribers and other primary care clinicians with an interest HBV\, an opportunity to apply their knowledge and skills to practical cases spanning diagnosis to treatment initiation and ongoing monitoring. Case scenarios are developed by ASHM clinical advisors or local experts to meet the identified learning needs of ASHM’s HBV prescribers\, which vary from each State and Territory. \nAttendees are also encouraged to submit their own cases for discussion. You can receive a second HBV CPD point by submitting and discussing one of your own de-identified patient cases on the night. DESCRIPTION:Appointments are available in our student-led exercise physiology clinic at the\nWA Centre for Rural Health (WACRH) in Geraldton. \nAppointments are available in our student-led exercise physiology clinic at the\nWA Centre for Rural Health (WACRH) in Geraldton.\nPeople attending the clinic are seen by Exercise Physiology students supervised by an Accredited\nExercise Physiologist.\nWe can offer services for a range of conditions including but not limited to:\n• Arthritis • Osteoperosis • Osteopenia • Cancer\n• Cardiovascular Conditions (e.g. high blood pressure)\n• Diabetes • Mental Health conditions (e.g. depression)\nAll students provide assessments and an exercise program designed to increase function\, increase\nstrength and improve health.\nClients will also receive a home program to enable them to maintain their progress. \nWho can attend:\nNo doctor’s referral is required and anyone is eligible to attend. A doctors clearance may be required\non screening. It is particularly suited to those who have difficulty accessing other exercise physiology\nservices.
