By 26/02/2021No Comments

The attached flyer advertises a new support group being established in Geraldton for Aboriginal people after stroke and traumatic brain injury.  The group is part of a research project led by Professor Beth Armstrong from ECU in partnership with WACRH, UWA, Telethon Kids Institute, Moorditj Koort Aboriginal Corporation and Geraldton Regional Aboriginal Medical Service. It’s funded by the WA Department of Health and the Perron Institute as part of the Neurotrauma Research Program. There will be a group in Geraldton and one in Perth. Ms Maureen Merritt is the Geraldton Group Facilitator.

The Geraldton Yarning Circles group will commence in March and will be held at GRAMS. Its aims are:

  1. i) to provide a culturally secure community based support group for Aboriginal people post stroke and traumatic brain injury in the Midwest-Gascoyne that is feasible and acceptable
  2. ii) to promote social and emotional wellbeing post brain injury for the survivors themselves

iii) to decrease carer strain
