SUMMARY:Webinar #5: An Introduction to Emotion Regulation
DESCRIPTION:Presented by: Sarah Dansie\, Workforce Development\, MHC \nTarget audience: Clinical and support workers in the alcohol and other drug (AOD) and mental health specialist sectors. \nPlease note: This webinar is a brief\, stand-alone version of the one-day workshop ST343 Emotion regulation delivered on the AODtraining@MHC Calendar. \nEmotion regulation is the ability to manage and respond to emotional experiences in a socially tolerable way. It includes being able to reduce the intensity or duration of emotional states or changing the expression of the emotion to achieve a more positive outcome. Emotion regulation generally increases across the lifespan\, however\, it is a skill that requires development. \nAOD use can be one of the strategies people adopt to regulate their emotions\, which can be helpful in the short-term\, but often not effective in the long-term. It makes sense then that many people who access AOD treatment services can have difficulty managing strong or overwhelming emotions and may have limited strategies outside of AOD use. \nThis training aims to assist the worker to: \n\nDevelop an understanding of emotion and emotion regulation\,\nExplore the skills needed to support people to better identify\, understand and manage their strong emotions\,\nIdentify strategies that will help people respond to overwhelming emotions in constructive ways.

SUMMARY:Lets talk about sex syphilis\, STIs & BBVs - Raising the issue in a AOD setting
DESCRIPTION:**REGISTER HERE BY 9TH SEPTEMBER** \n  \nTarget audience: Workers in the alcohol and other drug (AOD) and mental health specialist sectors. \nPresented by: Dr Donna Mak\, Public Health Physician\, Communicable Disease Control Directorate School of Medicine\, University of Notre Dame with an expert panel from the AOD sector. \nDetails: People who experience AOD-related issues or mental health conditions can be at higher risk of contracting Blood-Borne Viruses (BBVs) and Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI). Raising these issues with consumers can be uncomfortable\, but workers in the AOD and mental health sectors do play a role in the treatment and prevention of STIs and BBVs including syphilis. Syphilis\, once associated with men who have sex with men and sex workers\, is now a significant concern as at-risk groups have now expanded to include pregnant women\, heterosexual men and women\, and people experiencing mental illness\, AOD issues\, homelessness and unstable accommodation. \nWhile the main focus of this webinar will be syphilis\, the information discussed will be relevant to other STIs and BBVs. A panel of experts from the AOD sector will join Donna. \nThis webinar will provide Western Australian AOD and Mental Health workers with: \n\nAn update on the current syphilis outbreak in WA and Australia\nInformation and tools required to raise the topic of sexual health check-ups for STIs and BBVs\nInformation about referral options for STI and BBV testing.\n\nWe will use case studies to illustrate the implications of the infectious syphilis outbreak in WA  for AOD and mental health sector workers and their clients. \nPlease notify us if you have not received an acknowledgement email that your application has been received. \nFor further enquiries please contact the Workforce Development Administration Officer on 6553 0560.
