Could it be Syphilis? Primary Care, Emergency and Homeless Health
There is a rising prevalence of syphilis in the general population. ASHM has developed the Could it be Syphilis?? resource to alert healthcare providers (particularly those in primary care, emergency medicine and homeless health services) to the syphilis epidemic and to reinforce when they should be testing for syphilis.
This 60-minute session will provide a forum to discuss opportunistic testing in the general population based on clinical indicators and support healthcare providers from primary care, emergency medicine and homeless health services in treatment provision and contact tracing. The session will maintain a specific focus on congenital syphilis by highlighting screening recommendations in pregnant and post-partum people and the risk of delayed or incorrect diagnosis of syphilis when people present with non-genital symptoms.
