Perioperative Nursing Essentials July 2023

This course focuses on the care of the patient in a perioperative environment, and is suitable for the scrub-scout nurse, anaesthetic assistant and PACU nurse. Many aspects of the role of the anaesthetic assistant in accordance to ANZCA PS08 are inlcuded.

Topics covered in the course include:

• The role of the scrub-scout and perianaesthesia nurse
• Pharmacology and care of the patient following central neural blockade and neuromuscular blockade
• Patient assessment including pain management, cardiac and pulse oximetry monitoring and discharge criteria
• Managing perioperative emergencies including:
  • Difficult airway
  • Malignant hyperthermia
  • Anaphylaxis
  • Respiratory complications

The program provides 14 hours of CPD and includes on-demand webinars, pre-recorded webinars and interactive case based eLearning packages.

This course covers the essential elements of perioperative nursing and is designed as an introduction or refresher to those working in this area.
