This course will explore the theoretical and practical sides of managing sporting injuries with an emphasis on current research. Presented topics include shoulder, ankle and knee injuries with focus specifically on ligament, tendon and muscle. Participants will also gain information on acute onfield management and travelling with a sports team, as well as a large practical component on taping techniques.

The one- day Trauma Refresher Skills course is designed for rural and remote doctors, nurses and paramedics working in sites that have no dedicated trauma service and are required to provide care to the critically ill trauma patient. Traditionally for people with type 1 diabetes we have focused on how much insulin is needed to manage glucose levels after eating carbohydrate foods. Anecdotally people with type 1 diabetes have been telling us how meals high in fat and/or protein also affects their post prandial BGLs. Now we have some research and guidelines to help people with type 1 diabetes to manage the effects of carbohydrate, fat and protein on their post prandial BGLs. Dr Carmel Smart has been actively involved in the research and guideline developmant and will share those findings in this session.
